This means that you can rent a car, yet travel with 4 adults without anyone feeling crowded. Many times, you can fit up to 5 adults in a large car without anyone feeling like they don’t have enough room.
If you’re going to purchase one, you may wonder what large cars and minivans are available for you to test drive. Sometimes, the automakers have vehicles that they show as concept cars that never make it to the production floor for one reason or another. Even so, there are a number of large cars and minivans for you to choose from. You’ll be able to find one to suit your needs and your budget. Many of these vehicles offer safety features that you would expect from a large vehicle. No matter which vehicle you choose, you should be sure that you will have enough room for the number of people traveling with you.
Cars Large Enough For 5 People
Searching for cars large enough to fit all the people you will need to transport can be difficult sometimes. Additionally, if you are larger, you may want to look at cars with large doors. As a rule, the large cars will have larger doors. This will make your search slightly easier; you will simply need to look for large cars instead of cars with large doors.
Some versions of the Chrysler® 300 have an extended wheelbase, giving more leg room for those in the back seat. This means that the back doors will be larger, allowing adults easier access to the back seat. Though the Edmunds.com™ website has a number of cons if you’re considering purchasing this vehicle, at this time they haven’t yet reviewed the 2009 version.
With a five-passenger seating configuration, the Buick® LaCrosse is another large car that you might consider test driving. The LaCrosse safety features include full length side-curtain airbags and a stability control system that is standard on one model, but optional on the other two. If you’re worried about fuel economy, the LaCrosse isn’t exceptional either on the low or high end. The LaCrosse gets 17 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway.
The Toyota Avalon has reclining back seats, but also offers enough leg room that you can seat three people in the back comfortably. This means that you can have up to 5 people in the car without anyone feeling crowded and uncomfortable. Unlike many cars large enough to seat 5 people, the Toyota Avalon has a smaller trunk space to make up for the expanded interior passenger room.
Though the Dodge® Charger is on the list of large cars, there are several issues that would make this car a less ideal choice than other large cars on the list. For example, the sloping rear window can make it difficult for taller adults to sit in the back seat comfortably. The gas mileage average is 15 mpg in the city and 21 mpg on the highway. However, the Charger has a more powerful engine than many of the other cars large enough to be on the list as well.
The Hyundai Genesis® is the last of the large cars on this list. Though the Genesis® costs a few thousand dollars more than the other cars large enough to be on the list, this car feels more like a luxury car, making the extra cost worth it. The Genesis® is available as a rear wheel drive model, making it seem less than ideal for those who will be doing a lot of driving in the snow or other slippery weather conditions.
Large Minivans To Consider
If you’re one of those who needs to transport more than 5 people on a regular basis, you should probably consider purchasing a large minivan instead of a large car. Though minivans tend to be more expensive, the larger minivans can transport more than 8 people at once. With a price range that is the equivalent of the large cars that were compared earlier, these vans can help you stay within budget, but still fit everything you need to in one vehicle.
Two of the largest vans on the list are the same vehicle sold under different brands. The Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana both offer a 6 liter, 16 valve engine, and a swing-out side door. Both vehicles can seat up to 12 people, allowing you to transport the whole team to the game. With front and rear brakes and child safety locks, the Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana are safe and reliable vehicles.
With options similar to the Express and Savana, the Dodge® Sprinter also allows seating for up to 12 people. Though the Sprinter is at least $10,000 more expensive than the other vans on the list of the largest vans, it comes with an optional towing hitch and the power to tow whatever you need. Additionally, the safety features include front vent disc brakes and variable intermittent rear wipers.
The Toyota Sienna is the least expensive minivan on the list of the largest vans; it is also one of the two smallest minivans on the list of the largest minivans with seating for 8 people. However, the safety features available for the Sienna more than make up for the lack of seating capacity. Additionally, if you’re going to be transporting your children, the Sienna offers an optional DVD player in the back, allowing you to play movies while you’re traveling, eliminating the traditional questions and fighting on long trips.
The last of the large minivans is the Honda Odyssey. This vehicle is only slightly more expensive than the Toyota Sienna. Similarly, the Odyssey offers seating for 8. The safety features are those you would expect from a Honda.
